WEEK 6: ARRIVAL TO CHICLAYO

November 14, 2018
Today was a good P-day, and it was our last one at the CCM, which I am so happy about. I want to go to the mission field so bad. We went to the temple today for the last time, probably for the rest of my mission. But it was so nice. Our session was completely in Spanish, and I understood everything. I loved the temple and the CCM, but it is going to be awesome to get out of here and get to the mission field. Thanks so much for the Thanksgiving package, Mama, love you and thanks for all you do for me. Love you all.

Today was another normal day of learning Espanol, and I am learning a ton every day. I finally have the First Vision memorized in Spanish and I have a bunch of scriptures memorized too. The more I learn Spanish, the more I realize how ugly English is, hahaha. Spanish is so fluid and although my accent is terrible, I am slowly fixing it. I actually love writing in this journal - it is way nice, and it's cool that I will have it later physically. I still want the typing thing but there is something about writing in this journal. The food is good here and I was getting used to it, but apparently Chiclayo has the best food, so I am hyped for that. I have been slowly losing weight and I guess it makes sense because I am not eating at McDonalds five times a week. I also miss your food too, Mama. Not a ton new to say today, love you all.

Today was a little different than all of the other days at the CCM. We had the best chicken I have ever tasted for lunch and I understood an entire class of Spanish. We were in a class with the Latino Elders and Hermanas and I understood most of what was being said. Elder Kougath, the Elder that I said was weird a couple of weeks ago, left for home today. I had grown to love Elder Koutgath and he was a great kid. He went home for personal reasons and everyone was crying because they were going to miss him. I didn't cry that much, I mean I didn't cry at all, haha, but Elder Merritt was crying for 100 hours. I think that was because he was feeling like he didn't learn Spanish either. I really have no clue what is going on half of the time, I am just here to learn Spanish and teach the people. However, I hugged Elder Merritt because he was feeling bad. Sometimes that is all you have to do to make someone feel better. I am beyond excited to go into the field and start speaking only Spanish and teaching and talking to real people and being a real missionary and just working hard all of the time. Being a missionary is so crazy and it makes me want to get to Chiclayo a hora. I am so happy I came here because I know there is nothing like this mission. Love you all.

Today Elder Merritt and I extended our first invitation for someone to be baptized. We had been having trouble teaching meaningful lessons fully in Spanish. So we tried something different. We stopped focusing on the lesson and more on the person, our investigator (fake investigator who was our teacher). We made a fool-proof plan and did everything perfectly. At the end, Elder Merritt gave the invitation to be baptized and she said 'yes'. That was one of the best times or experiences of my life because everything was perfect. The Spirit was so strong and every day I have more confirmations telling me that I am supposed to be here, and that this is the best thing for me. I love the food and I love the people here. I am really happy and I hope y'all are too.

Today was the last Sunday at the CCM and it was a really good one. I am so excited to really start my mission and learn more Spanish and to start helping people find happiness in the gospel. Today we had our last district meeting and we all bore our testimonies and it was cool to see how our faith and our testimonies of the gospel had grown. My district was Elder Neyra, Elder Wilson, Elder Merritt, me, Elder Wilcox, Elder Smith, and Hermanas Harper and Wright. I love my district but I wasn't that sad to leave them. I just want to get out to the field so bad. Love you all and I have to start packing because I am leaving on a plane at 2:30am on Tuesday. It is about to be a couple of crazy days, so I will write later.
