WEEK 8: BAGUA GRANDE

November 26, 2018
Today was a really good p-day. We are in an Internet cafe, which is not a cafe at all, here they just call them 'internets'. It is a dark, hot room with one fan and a really old PC laptop in every stall. The keyboard sticks and I took a long part of my hour trying to figure out my camera, so I am sorry I didn't have much time. I love it here, Mama, and I love this work.

This week has been crazy. Also, thanks for all you do, Mama, I love you so much and I'm grateful for all you do.

P-day was really good. We travelled from Bagua Grande to Bagua Chico Hoy to play Futbol with our Zone. Our Zone is ten people and we are split into five areas, two in each area. I feel way cool being the only missionaries here. It is a responsibility, and it's great. I am actually pretty good at Futbol, and Elder Moran is so good, legit. Elder Moran has a huge collection of replica jerseys and I need to start my collection. Love you all so much.

Today we helped some other elders move, and they had so much stuff. Luckily, the Presidente De La Rama branch has a huge motorcycle with a roof and a truck bed. He is a rice farmer, so that is super dope. The other elders had so much stuff and we had to move the stuff up three floors of tiny staircases. It was a good day and I bought frozen milk from a random lady on the street, and it was so good.

Elder Moran and I had a rough time contacting today. We had a bunch of lessons lined up, but no one was home. We were getting way frustrated, so we went back to our room, said another prayer, and then contacted 11 people, and found and taught the Plan of Salvation to four new investigators. We really are at the mercy of God here, and He humbles us sometimes. But then, He makes you stronger than you are.

We had this cereal called Zuck for dinner, with chocolate milk. They are like cornflakes, but completely flat and they will slice your throat if you don't chew them all the way. I think I have permanent scarring, man. Love you all.

Today was a pretty long day, ahahaha. The other missionaries that have been out for a long time say the days are long, and the weeks are short. Elder Moran's one year mark is tomorrow, and he says it went by really fast.

Spanish is difficult. Sometimes my mouth is on fire, and sometimes I can't speak a single word. I have been out for what, seven or eight weeks, and I don't know Spanish.. ahahaha. It's all good. I am having a good time, we are working really hard, and we have two ninos to decide on a baptism date, so that is really cool. I am getting more used to the heat. I love the people, and Herman Herlinda's food. Today for dinner we literally had a mango smoothie. Tomorrow we are going all the way back to Chiclayo for a meeting or something. Love you all.

Well, we got back from our multi-Zone conference early this morning. We got on the bus at 11:30pm and we slept all night to Jaen. Then, we left Jaen at 6:30am to get to Bagua Grande. Mama, I am so grateful for all the stuff you've sent me, the little Christmas tree, and all the lights. That made me so happy and I love you so much. Thanks for making it feel like Christmas in the hottest place on earth. I love you and I could never thank you enough for all you do for me. I have to proselyte, but I love you and thanks. Oh, and thanks for the crazy, dope ties, I love them and Elder Moran loves his stuff too. I am glad he got the ties because I love him and he is crazy amazing.

Today was a crazy, long day. Last night we didn't sleep that much because we were on a bus. But the bus had these crazy seats that turned into a bed. So I was pretty comfy sleeping in my suit. It was such a long morning, no one was home, so we contacted some people. We had lunch and then we started our fast, because we are doing the 24 hour fast, obviously. Our area is allowed to drink water when we fast because of the heat, but Elder Moran and I decided not to drink any water. We started proselyting again, and it was the hottest day Bagua Grande has ever seen. The sun was ridiculous, and a shower of hot sand would have been refreshing at that point. After about two hours of proselyting with no water we realized we had stopped sweating. We did one more lesson with minimal talking because we couldn't talk. And then Elder Moran and I decided to get water through sign language because we literally couldn't move our mouths. We had one thing of water and then we taught a bunch of people. The beginning of the day was really hard, but we pushed through and trusted in the Lord with our faith and we got three people to commit to a baptism date, and two to get baptism without a date. The Lord is working miracles and we just have to walk around and help Him reach the people's hearts. This work is amazing. Love you all.
