WEEK 19: BAGUA GRANDE
February 13, 2019
Hey fam, everything's been crazy these past couple of days. Elder Moran left, and this p-day we barely had any Elders here so soccer was pretty boring. We didn't really have anything to do, so we just chilled around all day. Then on Monday night and Tuesday, Elder Wilson and I were companions, and the only missionaries in Bagua Grande, so we taught a bunch of people.
Elder Quispe, my new companion, got here today, and I can already tell he's a great missionary. He's from Lima, he's 20 years old, and has 20 months left to go in the mission. Also, he was baptized 3 years ago. When I asked him why he came on a mission, he said 'I asked God, and He said yes'. I already love Elder Quispe like crazy. He's so funny and he's a kind person to everyone. Today was our first day of work, and we're about to do some amazing things in Bagua Grande. I look up to him a lot already. Also, I led my area today, and it went pretty good, the Lord is guiding us to so many people every day. We have the baptism of Hermano Juan Miranda this week, so we are getting ready for that. I love this work, and Elder Quispe is amazing.

Today was probably the wackest day of the mission yet. Yesterday, Juan Miranda didn't get baptized because he wanted his dad to be there. We had invited a ton of members and investigators so they could see the baptism, and Juan calls right before and is like, yo could we do it tomorrow morning (Sunday) instead? We were like yeah, so we told all the members that were coming that we weren't having it, all the people that prepared talks and stuff, but that was ok.
The font has a big hole in the bottom, so we tried to tape it up from the inside, because the water leaks out pretty quick. We used up all of the water to fill up the font on Saturday, so we fixed the font as good as we could with scotch tape, and planned the baptism for 7:30 in the morning, right before church at 9. So on Sunday morning, we skipped breakfast and went to see where the water was, and by now it was about half way full. We thought that was good enough to submerge one person, so were cleaning the church getting stuff ready. Juan took forever to get there, also the members don't come until like 9:00 to go to church, so there were no members there yet.
No Juan Miranda until about 8:30, when one priesthood holder from the branch got there. So then Juan finally showed up at about 8:50 and we started the baptism. We sung really quick, gave 2 talks by Elder Quispe and I, and baptized Juan in about 2 seconds. It lasted in all about 10 mins, finishing just before church started, and I think we set the record for the fastest baptism in history. I then confirmed Juan a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that was all.
We have been working a lot this week, so I haven't written a ton but I love you all like crazy, gn.

*FEB. 18 was the first day we got to Video chat with Owen, after the new policy change stating families can message, call or video chat their missionary every week! It was so wonderful and heartwarming to talk to him!*
