WEEK 20: BAGUA GRANDE
February 21, 2019
This week has been way crazy, we've been working and finding new people to teach. Hermano Bruno is getting baptized in a couple of days, and he's getting interviewed tomorrow. It was so amazing to teach him, and the church will help him so much with his life.
We found another really interested lady to teach, and she has 2 daughters. Her husband left them, and she doesn't have anyone else and needs a lot of help. I know the message of the Gospel really can help her a lot. Well it's late and we gotta go to bed, love you all gn.

Yesterday we were teaching the Hermana with two daughters, and she was telling us how one of her daughters always talks about people trying to take her, or how she thinks she is going to die and go to heaven soon. So Elder Quispe and I were like whoa that's weird, and we started considering that an evil spirit could be in their house. We got this feeling because when we were discussing it, her daughter was sleeping and all of a sudden she started yelling in her sleep. So we were like whoa, we need to dedicate this house, because we felt something 'off' there. So we dedicated her house and afterwards you could tell there was a difference in the Spirit there. It was much better after.
This Hermana says the funniest things in our lessons, I don't know who taught her all this stuff, but they were confused. Most of the people here in Bagua know about Jesus Christ, and about the Bible and stories of the prophets and stuff, but Joanna is the funniest and most innocent sister I ever seen. Our first lesson she said, Christ is the Father of Jesus, right? Well its all in Spanish, so it seems funnier. And in our next lesson, she was talking about how in the Bible it talks about a part when Jesus baptized only 46 year olds... And in our last lesson, she was talking about how if were virgins, then we can see God. It's interesting to see the beliefs that people have, and I love teaching the simple truths of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ to people that want to learn more.
We totally destroyed one of the fans that we had in our room. Elder Quispe took the cover off of his fan and I walked by and the fan hit my arm and the propeller broke. So we tried to superglue it, and then once it was dry we tried it again. It was going pretty good, but then I broke another propeller on accident, so we glued that other one too. That didn't work because the glue was weak, and now the fan has no propellers.
We've been finding really good families to teach. One is this family with a dad named Arnaldo, and his wife, Veronica. They have a son named Hitler, yeah Hitler, who is a single dad of a 10 year old son who is also named Hitler, and Deyvi, a 21 Year old hermana. This family is great, and we are praying for them to be able to come to church this week. We are also teaching and praying for another family with a husband and wife, and her sister.

Elder Quispe is the best, we just laugh all day and I can finally make jokes and be sarcastic in Spanish, so that's good. I love this work.

Today was a good day. I love Elder Quispe, we just work all day, and that's the greatest thing of all time. He loves the people so much. Today we ran into some other missionaries from this church called 'The Iglesia de Dios' and we were talking and sharing scriptures and trying to help them understand our message. Then they went off showing us all these random scriptures from the Bible, and their message was just very contentious and, well let's just say different. Their whole approach to the gospel of Jesus Christ is that if they eat bread and water every year on the 14th of March, they'll be saved in the Kingdom of God. And they believe in some other things, I won't go into too much, but things like the mother of God is living somewhere in Asia. And I just thought it was really sad that they were so worried about their rehearsed bible scriptures that there was no room for the Spirit. It was just very contentious, and then I realized that the only way to help these people is just by bearing testimony. So I bore my testimony about how I asked God if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was true, and if all of these things were true, and I got my answer. The good feelings of the Holy Ghost returned and everyone was very quiet after that. After this experience, my personal witness was much stronger than before. I love this gospel and all it has given me.
*Loved our video chat with Owen today! So wonderful to be able to see his face and talk to him in person, what a blessing!!*
