WEEK 32: PIMENTEL
May 13, 2019
Today was a great p-day, it was way chill, we really didn't do a ton of anything. We played futbol, and Elder De La Cruz and I went to this restaurant. Also, Elder Quispe finished his mission and wrote to me today, saying how weird it was being home. He was looking in my Spotify account and everything, which is way funny.
We had a good lesson with Carlos Capitan. He's going to get baptized, he's the only one we are teaching with a baptismal date.
We got home and were super hungry, so we called our usual salchipapa place, but they were closed, so we went to our second hamburger stand. But they ran out of burgers, so we were wandering the streets looking for food. We found this one stand that was run by two Venezuelan girls and they were both so funny, asking us where we were from and what we were doing, so we contacted them. They seemed interested in our message, so hopefully we are going to teach them at some point. I thought it was funny how God closed our first three choices so that we could find them and teach them.

Today was a pretty good day. We had a District meeting today, and it was way good. Today we actually did some good work, or at least it was very satisfying today. We had short, meaningful lessons that were to the point. We were running from lesson to lesson, so that was good.
Sometimes it's funny what some people do to get out of talking to us, though. We called this girl, and she told us she wasn't home, but were were like, let's still go visit her mom, and she was home with her. We heard her and everything, and we thought it was funny how people get out of talking to us. But we ordered some salchipapa and it's here and I'm hungry.

Today I had one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. We had a lesson with Julie, and she basically told us that she'd gotten her answer that the message we have been sharing with her about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is all true. She said she could only describe it like a feeling of peace, and that she knew she was doing the right thing. I've been praying for such a long time for someone to receive an answer like this. We have just been praying and praying and praying so much for Julie and her family. She finally got it, and she told us she wants to get baptized this Saturday. We have to teach her a ton still, and it's Wednesday, but she's going to get baptized, and that is what is important. God answers prayers, sometimes you just have to have patience and faith.

Well, everything with Julie has been put on hold. She was so excited to get baptized, and then we were teaching her the law of chastity, and literally we said one sentence about how the law of chastity deals with marriage and stuff, and she was like, oh, I'm not married. We were like, yo are you serious? And she was like yes, she and her husband got married in the Catholic Church, but that is not legally married here in Peru, so we were like ohh yeah, it's all good, you just need to get legally married to get baptized.
But then, she explained this crazy story about how she already got legally married for a green card while she was living in Japan so she could get Japanese citizenship. But she hasn't seen this other guy in 15 years. So in order for her to get baptized, she has to divorce the guy in Japan, and then marry her husband now. But all of that will be super hard to do because this guy could be in Japan, or Peru, or dead, or so many other things. And they need to get a divorce, so it's crazy. There's a member of the ward who is studying to be a lawyer, and he's helping us out with that. So we are going to help her get baptized soon, just not as soon as we thought.
The important thing is that she did get her answer about the Church, and she has her testimony and she has a light that wasn't there before.

Today we had six visitors in Church, so that was great. We have so many good people to teach here, but there's something that is stopping us from helping them all be baptized. Gabriella can't get baptized because she is not married, Julie can't get married because she is already married to a random guy and doesn't know where he is. I don't know, we just need to humble ourselves and work. I don't really know what we are missing.
We had capilla abierta, which is like open church, where people come and see how the Church is and what we do there. And about five people showed up. Sometimes it's way funny being a missionary and things don't work out too well. But we always have next week.
