WEEK 38: PIMENTEL

June 27, 2019
This week has been really crazy, we were kind of hurting for people to teach. So we have been praying really hard and looking for people and have already starting teaching 10 new people. The Lord really does bless us for our diligence in all that we do.

We really don't have a lot of time for anything, we are so busy we can barely cook dinner so we don't starve to death. But life is good. I'm really starting to learn a lot about humility, about people, and about what God wants from us. I love Elder Varas like crazy, and all I want to do is teach and baptize.

We had intercambios, and I was working with Elder Costa from Brazil, and Portuguese is super crazy. He taught me some of the pronunciations and in Portuguese you have to talk with your nose. But someday I am going to learn that language.

We are finding a lot of really good people and we are learning how to really work more with the members as well. I love this work and our trials are what make us work harder, so I am grateful for the trials that we have.

Today was a really good day. We didn't have anything to do in the morning, and it's honestly a joke in the mission that the mornings have no pasa nada, or they're terrible because all of the moms go to the market and they are cooking and washing clothes. So literally no one can meet with us in the mornings. But we found this new person to teach in the street, (well he found us), but he's this old man who knows so much about the Bible. He knows the Bible almost better than anyone I have ever seen. We were teaching him about the Restoration of the Church, and we gave him a pamphlet to read. Not only did he read all of it, but he wrote down about 100 Biblical texts that supported our message. He was showing us where it talks about the Priesthood and other references that just gave strength to our message. He still has so many questions and doubts, but I feel the Spirit guiding my words when I teach him, so much that I choke on my words as they come out. With the relative little knowledge I have of the Bible, I was able to answer his questions with the power of the Holy Ghost.

Today I also felt the Spirit really strong when I told this lady about how Jesus died for her sins. I know my Savior lives, and I know that He died for me, and everyone in the world.

And now we are going to eat popcorn for dinner, because it's the end of the month and we have no food or money.

Today was a good, but weird day. We actually had lessons in the morning, and we had a really good lesson with Sandra and her sister. Her sister is Catholic and she was super opposed to the Book of Mormon. However, she still sat in on our lesson with Sandra and was asking lots of questions and trying to catch us in a fault. We explained all about the Book of Mormon to her and now she loves it, she was so happy to read it. It's amazing how a simple, heartfelt testimony about the Book of Mormon changes a person's heart. I saw this change in Sandra's sister, and that was awesome to see.

Also Peru beat Uruguay in Futbol today and it was so funny, everyone in the entire city was screaming and running around in the streets with their shirts off. It was so funny to see a country united in a sport like that.

Today we witnessed a miracle. It was a miracle for us in this area, because we had eight people come to church. God really helped us out, and we are so excited to work with and teach these people.

Also, I know for a fact that fasting brings so many blessings. In Alma it says they fasted and prayed for a long time to be able to preach the Gospel with power, and we have to do that too as missionaries. We are teaching some really good people, and I'm seeing more of the Lord's blessings with a companion that follows the rules. We are striving to make our area better, and I love this work.
