WEEK 40: PIMENTEL

July 8, 2019
Today was p-day, and for the first time in like 4 months we didn't play futbol, so it was pretty chill. We taught this part-member family in the morning, and then played Uno with them for like 3 hours afterwards.

We saw these ostriches that are here in Pimentel, and that was pretty interesting. It is physically possible to ride an ostrich, they can hold up to 180 kilos, so yeah, you can ride them.

In the evening we found pretty much no one at home. We went out for all of our visits but no one was around, so were were just going off what the Spirit was telling us. It is amazing to realize that we are guided by the Lord. I can honestly say that happened today. I was super tranquilo because I knew the Holy Ghost was going to lead us to do something good today. Elder Varas sometimes gets a little frustrated with the people, but the Savior said, "if God so clothe the grass of the field... how much more will he not provide for you, if ye are not of little faith?" So, we found this hermana that we were teaching in her house, and her husband was there and we had a really good lesson with them. So we just have to have faith in the work.

Yesterday I went on an Intercambio with Elder Gutierez, who only has three weeks left in his mission. Their area is the Santa Victoria area, and it's probably the richest area in all of Chiclayo. In Bagua, we were teaching people in houses of adobe, but in Santa Victoria the elders teach people in mansions. I've been feeling the Spirit work through me a lot lately, and I really love the people. Sometimes I need to stop worrying about numbers and focus more on the people. Each person has their own problems and needs. Presidente Balderrama sent us a letter saying we should picture everyone dressed in white, or in the waters of baptism. So we are really trying to invite everyone we teach to follow the Savior's example and be baptized. I have really been seeing how the Spirit works when we invite others to baptism. We have a limited time here on the mission, and our time should be focused on those that are truly wanting to learn and progress. It is hard spending time with those that are not willing to change or that don't really want the Gospel in their lives.

I think Elder Varas passed out on his bed, so I am going to go to bed too. But we are still praying and working and hoping for those that we teach to progress. I want to see a true conversion this change. Also, Maximiliano in Bagua got married and then baptized a while back, so that was way sick.

Today we finally set a date for baptism with Maximilia, and we are so happy. We are thanking the Lord a lot as we have been praying for so long, and doing everything that we can to help her. It is just so great to see how she wants to follow Christ. We are so happy.

We are almost out of money already this month. We made the mistake of buying all of our food at the beginning of the month, and we bought so many snacks and things, and we have already eaten almost all of it. I think I am just going to eat more eggs because they are cheap.

But today was a good day, we found a lot of new people to teach and we were super busy all day. Today as we taught about Joseph Smith and his vision of seeing Jesus Christ and God, I felt this feeling like everything in the world made sense, I felt the Spirit so strong. I'm reminded constantly that this work is true, and that God works through us to accomplish His work.

Today was one of the best days of my life. We had seven people we are teaching come to church, two of which were Sandra and her sister (who used to be super against the church). They both came to church today, and some of the other new members went and sat by them, which was so nice and helpful. We had an amazing lesson with them last night and now both Sandra and Joansi want to get baptized. Going to church and making friends also helped them so much, and I was very grateful for that.

Later today, we were trying to find someone to teach and no one was home. We had planned to do a family night with this new couple we are teaching, but they weren't home either. We had planned on doing the family night with this other awesome, young, member couple at 8:00 but we were going to have to cancel with them if the couple we are teaching didn't show up.  But I knew and had faith that they were going to show up. They still weren't there by 6:00, which was the time we were going to start, and we called them until about 8:20, and they still weren't answering, so we went and told the young member couple that it looked like we weren't going to have the family night after all. As we were talking to them, Renzo called us (he is the husband of the couple we are teaching), and told us they still really wanted to come to the family night. They were still running late, but I knew they were going to come, which they did. They finally showed up about 9:15 and we started the family night. It ended up being incredibly powerful and we invited them to baptism, and they were like, yes for sure we will get baptized when we know this message is true. They are the best and today was such a good day, and it all goes to my Papa Dios.
