WEEK 71: LAMBAYEQUE

February 10, 2020
Today was the last p-day of Elder Navarrete before he is done with his mission, and we didn't even do anything, it was really chill. We went to Modelo to try to help this sister in our zone find a football polo de Ecuador, but we didn't find one.

We had two family nights, and in one we found three new people to teach that are really interested in learning more about the gospel. Also, we had a family night with Lucy y Raquel, and it's amazing to see their spiritual progress with the short time that they have been members. When Raquel was asked a question about what she wouldn't know if we didn't have the Book of Mormon. She said, "I wouldn't know about the Atonement of Christ, or that there is the power to baptize." And when she was asked about her favorite part of the Book of Mormon, she said "That a mother can forget her own child, but God will never forget the House of Israel." She is really progressing.

Today we had a Gira Misional (mission tour) with Elder Alonso, who is a General Authority of the Seventy. I know that God calls leaders to minister to us, and that they receive revelation for us. Personally for us. There was a lot said today that I know God wanted me to know. The prophets and apostles and 70's don't just give inspirational messages, they are called to heal the sick and the broken hearts and guide the lost. They really help, and it's all thanks to God.

Today Hermana Hilary was baptized, she's the cutest little 12 year old girl I've ever seen, and it makes me really happy that she was able to take this step. She had an awesome baptism too, perfect for a little girl. I think we were the only two priesthood holders there, it's good that women can now be witnesses to a baptism. But the messages were by two sisters, the prayers, and a musical number by sisters. So it was perfect for Hilary.

We found this amazing couple in the street, we asked them when we could go to their house and give them a Book of Mormon, and they said, right now. So we walked to their house, and we taught them about the Sabbath Day. The husband was out of a job, so the Spirit led us to promise him that when he comes to church tomorrow, he would find a job during the week. So we will see if they come to church tomorrow.

The other day we had a consejo de lideres (council of leaders) with Elder Alonzo and it was amazing. I learned so much, and it really changed my view about missionary work. If we learn more about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we have more happiness, it is the source of all peace and happiness. No one can completely be happy without the Atonement of Christ.

(This is an email I received from Owen on Monday before we connected on the phone).
This week a really good week, we had the baptisms of Hilary and Mattias, two 12 year old kids, who are really awesome. Hilary is the cutest little girl I've ever seen, and she's a really great convert. Mattias also is so sweet, and they both have really awesome support, so I feel like they will really progress in the gospel.

We received news about the changes. I'm staying in Lambayeque and I'm gonna be with a Colombian companion who doesn't have a lot of time left in the mission, but I'm super excited. His name is Elder Lugo, and there's a lot of other changes in our zone.

Elder Navarrete went home, and he was so sad ahahahah but now we're really good. We're in the offices and there's like 100 thousand people waiting to write. But my birthday was awesome, thanks so much for the package. I think I've almost eaten all of my candy already, cause its awesome. Also that pocket watch is so sweet, I put it in my suit on Sunday and it was super rich. But yeah our pension bought us a cake and sang to us for my birthday, so we passed it really awesome. But thanks so much mama for everything, the pants fit really well, and we had 7 people in the church and a miracle couple that we found that are most likely going to get baptized. But love you mama. Say what up to the fam.
